Description
The Royal Canadian Mint calls these "Specimen Sets," and the Charlton Standard Guide to Canadian Coins refers to the finish as "brilliant relief on a parallel lined background." Personally, though, I think the 'specimen' finish on these coins renders something like a a sort of 'reverse proof' look. Take a look at the pictures and you be the judge! In any case, these sets are really very nice and are a more affordable way to collect Canada's regular-issue coins than the more prestigious "proof sets." The 2000 set was issued in two varieties -- both includes seven coins - the 1c, 5c, 10c, 25c, 50c, and coins -- but one of the sets had the regular 'polar bear' coin while this set, called the 'Path of Knowledge' set, includes a special limited-edition version of the coin which depicts a family of polar bears. This difference is noted on the outer box and, of course, is obvious when looking at the coins. The set you will receive comes in the original packaging as issued by the RCM, an outer, colorfully printed cardboard box, an inner "bookcase" lens with green leatherette outer surfaces and velour inner surfaces and, of course, the certificate of authenticity. All are pictured above in the photographs, which depict the actual set you will receive. The coins and packaging are all in excellent shape! Buy yours today!
