Silver Gilt Proof Big Coin Series - Mackerel is the third coin in this series of the Royal Canadian Mint (RCM), which honors the designs for the coins that marked the country's centennial fifty years ago. Mintage of this coin, which was struck from .9999 fine silver, was limited to just 2,150 pieces, making this an excellent choice not only for fishermen and those who collect Canadian coinage generally but also those who value scarcity.
Exquisite mackerel design by Alex Colville
The obverse design, like the reverse one, is taken from the centennial coin that bore the same image. Created by Arnold Machin, the obverse image is that of a young Queen Elizabeth II. The "Girls of Great Britain and Ireland" tiara sits atop her head and, like her garment, is gilt. Alex Colville's reverse design features a single mackerel in left-side profile.
Nearly Perfect Proof 69 Ultra Cameo Early Releases with exclusive Canada label
This coin earned the second highest grade given out by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), Proof 69. That means that the coin appears flawless to the naked eye but has at least one flaw that can be seen under magnification. NGC certified the coin as an Ultra Cameo and an Early Release, attractive labels for collectors, and printed all of this information on a label that features the Canadian flag and one of the country's most beautiful landmarks, Niagara Falls.
